Edoardo Alfieri and his works at the Fine Arts Museum in Genoa.
The Academy of fine arts museum was founded in 1751 by a group of genoese artists and aristocrats. The Museum is a collection of cultural richness of Genoa made between the fourteenth century and today. The Alfieri-Maisano archive donated to the Academy a series of works: Melancholic Child (1944), Horses (1956), Dynamic Composition (1956), Cain and Abel (1956), Monument to Mameli (1961).

This sculpture was considered by Alfieri “One of his most authentic plastic expression that it felt particularly bound”.
The work presents a dense interweaving that represents a group of stylized running men that are helping each other keep up the drape, the italian flag, which is held high by the men and the wind. The protagonist is Goffredo Mameli, one of the most influential figures of the independence war in Italy, famous for writing the Italian hymn. This sculpture was fused after the death of the artist

Cain and Abel, the famous biblical narrative, is one of the excuses to depict the eternal struggle of mankind.
The artist reflects and makes us aware about the fights between good and evil, which is in all of us, this is a presence since the beginning of time.
Alfieri dealt with this theme between 1956 and 1958 making a good number of bronze and chalk sculptures.
